Two people have been arrested in Thomaston for alleged drug trafficking.
On Wednesday, the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency said its midcoast agents and the Knox County Sheriff’s Office received information about suspected drug trafficking on Vinalhaven, including transporting the drugs by ferry to Rockland.
After investigating, police identified a suspected vehicle, occupied by Mariah Grover and Jefferson Jazzir Arias, and pulled it over in Thomaston, finding 66 grams of suspected cocaine inside, along with “items indicative of drug trafficking,” a .45 caliber handgun, $9,500 in suspected drug proceeds, the MDEA said.
Grover, 22, who police said is known to reside in both Texas and Maine, was arrested and charged with unlawful trafficking in Schedule W drugs. Arias, 27, who is known to reside in both Texas and California, was arrested and charged with aggravated trafficking in Schedule W drugs. Arias additionally had two extraditable warrants — from California (robbery) and Texas (theft), according to the agency.
Both are being held at Knox County Jail, Grover on $50,000 cash bail and Arias on $75,000 cash bail. They are expected to make their initial court appearances on Friday.
