Eva Longoria still feels homesick for a few things in the U.S. years after her move to Europe.
“I miss my family, my Texas family,” Longoria, 51, told People in an interview published on Tuesday, April 21. “[And] good Mexican food. That’s what I miss. That’s what’s not in Europe, is good Mexican food.”
Longoria was born and raised in Texas before moving to Los Angeles in her 20s to pursue her acting career. After tying the knot with her husband, Mexican businessman José “Pepe” Bastón Patiño, in 2016 and welcoming their son, Santiago, two years later, Longoria and her family began splitting their time between Mexico and Spain. The Desperate Housewives alum bought her dream home in Marbella, Spain, in 2023.
Longoria said the biggest change she experienced after moving to Europe was “slowing down.”

“They really enjoy life in Spain,” she explained. “They love a long meal. You’re never in a rush. I don’t miss the working lunch.”
Longoria continued of U.S. culture, “It’s so amazing how we really don’t take lunch in our work culture. You always do the working lunch: ‘I’m going to go grab a sandwich. I’ll be right back.’ You only have an hour. It’s so stressful to think, ‘I have to hurry up and be back.’”
The Eva Longoria: Searching for France host also said she appreciates the lack of traffic in Spain.
“There’s no traffic where we live,” she added. “I walk everywhere.”
Longoria and her family returned to L.A. last year while she started working on The Fifth Wheel, her second film as a director. Santiago, 7, enrolled in school for the first time and has “loved it.”

But he’s really flourishing as a little human being, and it’s really fun to watch.”
Though Santiago is having a blast at his school in L.A., Longoria said they “might” have to return to Spain because her son “likes it more.”
“We have a big family, and so a lot of his cousins are in Spain,” she added. “They’re mostly in Spain and Mexico. And so we like to be surrounded by family. I also think he’s happiest when he’s with family. So I think we take it day by day, year by year.”
Longoria previously opened up about her decision to leave L.A. in a November 2024 interview with Marie Claire.
“The vibe was different,” she explained. “And then Covid happened, and it pushed it over the edge. Whether it’s the homelessness or the taxes — not that I want to s*** on California — it just feels like this chapter in my life is done now.”
