Tyler Witham-Jordan has been found guilty of depraved indifference murder in the December 2022 death of 3-year-old Makinzlee Handrahan of Edgecomb.
The trial at the Sagadahoc County Superior Court ended Tuesday as a jury of eight men and four women delivered their verdict after less than a day of deliberation.
Immediately after the verdict Faith Lewis, Makinzlee’s mother, said she was happy “the truth came out.”
“They got the right one,” she said.
On Christmas morning in 2022, Handrahan’s mother, Faith Lewis, called 911 around 7:30 a.m. after finding her daughter cold, stiff, bruised and not breathing.
Dispatchers heard the girl’s mother say, “Oh my god, I think my daughter’s dead.”
Her boyfriend, later identified as Witham-Jordan, could be heard saying, “I’m f——d” and “I’m finished.”
First responders said they found bruises all over the little girl’s body, and she was discovered unresponsive in her bed.
The medical examiner ruled her cause of death blunt force trauma and said she had internal injuries.
After determining that the child was deceased, her body was transported to MaineHealth Lincoln Hospital’s Miles Campus in Damariscotta.
An autopsy the following day identified extensive bruising on the girl’s body, abrasions on her face, and internal bleeding in her skull and abdomen. Maine Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Liam Funte determined the cause of death was “homicide caused by nonaccidental blunt force trauma.”
Witham-Jordan was arrested in connection with Makinzlee’s death in October 2023.
He faced a trial in December 2025 that was declared a mistrial after Handrahan’s mother was shown her daughter’s body and cried out at Witham-Jordan, “What did you do to my baby?” The defense asked for a mistrial, and the judge granted it.
Witham-Jordan’s sentencing has not been scheduled.
