A Connecticut woman was arrested Thursday after she tried to flee from police following a crash on Interstate 295 in Freeport.
Holli Tapley, 45, of Shelton, Connecticut, was driving on I-295 about 11 a.m. when she crashed her silver 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek in the northbound median near exit 24, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
When she handed her identification to Maine State Police Cpl. Klayton Peckham, who responded to the crash, Tapley allegedly ran across the southbound lanes of I-295 and fled into the woods, according to Moss.
Police searched a residential area near the woods where Tapley fled. A witness told police he saw a woman walking away from the interstate while he was cleaning off his vehicle.
When Maine State Police Sgt. Dan Hansen and Freeport officers stopped to talk with her, Tapley allegedly fled into a nearby backyard, leading police on a short chase, Moss said Friday.
Tapley was wanted in Connecticut for a parole violation related to a kidnapping offense, according to Moss.
She was taken to the Cumberland County Jail in Portland, where she was being held as a fugitive from justice.
