An update on Tottenham’s pursuit of Alessandro Bastoni has been provided recently.
Tottenham are, of course, in the market for some fresh legs at centre-back this summer. This comes with Antonio Conte deploying a three at the back system, something Spurs did not have that much experience with before 2021/22.
As a result, their squad is not really set up to play such a system, especially on the left side of a back-three where left-back Ben Davies is their only real option.
So, it was not too surprising to see it reported that the Lilywhites are in the market for a left-footed centre-back this summer.
Their main target for this spot appears to be Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni. The 23-year-old won the Serie A with Conte in 2020/21 and is highly rated by many in Italy.
Now football.london reporter Alasdair Gold has shed some light on the Bastoni to Spurs talk, stating that Inter need money to strengthen their attack and could sell Bastoni to do so.
He adds that Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku is of interest, meaning Chelsea could help out Spurs by green lighting the Belgian’s return to the San Siro:
“This is purely my opinion and we’re very early in the transfer window so things can change quickly, but I get the feeling that circumstances at Inter are working in Spurs’ favour at the moment. They need money to address their attack, with Dybala a target and a Lukaku return considered, while at the back they also want to sign Bremer, a player Spurs also have on their centre-back list.
“They need funds because they’re in a tough financial position and Bastoni is one of their best chances of raising those funds and he has just two years left on his contract so, unless he signs a new deal, this is the peak value they can get for him. The 23-year-old is happy at Inter at this point in his career, but I just wonder whether what’s going on at the club ends up pushing him towards the door.”

Elsewhere, it appears Inter are closing in on a move for Torino’s Gleison Bremer, could he be a replacement for Bastoni?
