A dog shot in Bangor on Tuesday has died, the owner said.
Blink, an 8-year-old pitbull, died Tuesday evening, her owner, Samuel Robichaud, told the Bangor Daily News. He said Blink was shot by a neighbor around 8:48 a.m. that day.
The dog’s injuries were too severe and he “had to let her go,” he said.
On Tuesday morning, Blink got away from Robichaud and ran toward the neighbor as Robichaud followed close behind, he said.
The neighbor fired a gun four or five times, and the dog was shot in the jaw and neck, Robichaud said.
The Bangor Police Department is investigating the shooting, a spokesperson said Tuesday. The department did not respond to questions about Robichaud’s account or the status of the dog.
The BDN is not naming the neighbor because he has not been charged with a crime. Attempts to contact the neighbor were not immediately successful.
Robichaud provided pictures of Blink, bloodied and being cared for by veterinary professionals.
