Former Republican U.S. senator and presidential candidate Mitt Romney held a fundraiser for Sen. Susan Collins in Utah on Wednesday, Politico reported.
Collins spoke briefly at the Salt Lake City event, where Politico said she “exuded optimism, but noted she will need help.”
Prior to the event, Romney has been largely absent from politics since he left the Senate in 2025 after a single term.
Collins, the five-term Republican senator from Maine, is likely to face political newcomer Graham Platner in November after Gov. Janet Mills, Platner’s closest competitor, dropped out of the Democratic primary race.
Despite the gap in experience between Collins and Platner, a February poll found that the Democrat would win in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup.
