If your TikTok feed recently served you a video of a building-sized shovel and you thought, “Wait, what?” — you are far from alone. A 50-foot-tall, 24,000-pound shovel has taken over the internet, and the whole thing traces back to Tom Cruise, a wild new movie and one of the most chaotic marketing stunts of 2026.
The Warner Bros. TikTok account started posting clips of a massive shovel in April 2026. The videos showed every step of the building process: people sanding, painting, assembling and ultimately transporting the colossal thing to a busy street corner in California using a crane. Now it just sits there, casually towering against the sky like that’s a normal thing for a shovel to do.
Giant Shovel TikTok Videos Confused Social Media Users
The comment sections of the shovel videos have gone feral. “Can someone explain what is this,” one person asked in the comments of an April 13, 2026, video, while another said, “Still don’t get the message.” On an earlier video posted one day prior, the reactions were even more bewildered. “Why what for??” one person asked, while another asked, “What heck is going on here 😂😂😂.”
The confusion was the point — and it worked.

How Is Tom Cruise Involved in the Giant Shovel Videos?
The giant shovel is a promotional stunt for an upcoming movie called Digger, set for a theatrical release on October 2, 2026. Cruise stars in the film, and it’s a role unlike anything he’s ever done before.
On April 14, 2026, Cruise attended CinemaCon to debut the trailer for the film — and he appeared completely unrecognizable in the teaser with a large belly and gray hair, speaking with a southern accent.
“It took 40 years for me to be able to put on the boots of Digger Rockwell,” he said of his character.
Cruise said this “kind of movie is why I wanted to make movies.” He added, “The movie is wild, it’s funny and I can’t wait for you all to see it.”
The film’s official synopsis per IMDb says, “The most powerful man in the world embarks on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything.”
Where Is the Giant Shovel Located?
On April 10, 2026, Cruise himself posted the coordinates of the shovel on X: “In DIGGER We Trust. 33.711°N, 116.233°W.”
The shovel is located near the Coachella festival grounds in Indio, California, on John Nobles Avenue and Monroe Street — placing it near one of the biggest cultural events of the spring to maximize eyeballs and selfies. The whole campaign is designed for participation: post your own #DiggerShovel moment, tag the account and become part of the marketing machine.

‘Digger’ Director Called Tom Cruise’s Performance ‘Fearless’
Director Alejandro González Iñárritu was equally enthusiastic about Cruise’s commitment to the role. “Watching Tom Cruise becoming Digger Rockwell, I was not prepared for that,” he said at CinemaCon, shouting out Cruise for “embodying this character, this is another kind of fearless … this role could be his most challenging, hire-wire act.”
Iñárritu previously teased the project while in Cannes last year.
“All I can say is it is a brutal, wild comedy of catastrophic proportions. It’s insane. It’s scary and funny and beautiful. I know comedy is not what people expect from me, or Tom, and making this film was terrifying for me,” he said at the time. “But I don’t like to repeat myself, and every film should scare you a little. I felt Birdman was a comedy, a dark comedy, and this one was challenging like that. And Tom makes me laugh every single day. He has this total commitment, this total madness.”
Who Else Is in the ‘Digger’ Movie Cast?
The cast also includes Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, Sandra Hüller, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde and Emma D’Arcy — a lineup that matches the scale of a 24,000-pound prop shovel.
