Congratulations to the vast majority of Maine voters who saw through the President Donald Trump/MAGA-inspired malicious and contemptible, in my view, effort to discourage and restrict free and fair voting. Question 1 on the Nov. 4 ballot was defeated decisively, and deservedly so.
Optimistically, this may also serve to further strengthen the momentum of what I see as patriotic resistance as citizens continue to rally to take back our precious democracy — a civic jewel that Trump, his MAGA crowd, and legislative enablers seem determined to subvert and dismantle at every turn.
A year from now, Mainers will have the opportunity to weigh in once again, and through free and fair voting we will be able to (as one No Kings protest sign recently declared) “Grab ‘Em by the Midterms.”
