I just finished reading the comments of Maine’s political leaders in the Bangor Daily News concerning Rep. Jared Golden’s decision to not run for another term in the U.S. House of Representatives. Most of the comments were very respectful and expressed gratitude and appreciation for the congressman’s dedication and work in our 2nd Congressional District.
My husband and I are both voters in this district and, though we don’t always agree with the congressman’s votes, we recognize and greatly appreciate his integrity and honesty.
Two of the comments published were from the Republican National Committee and the party’s campaign arm. My initial reaction after reading them was: Is it a prerequisite to be nasty if one is a Republican these days?
Both of the comments were nasty. Most of the spokespeople on television for this Republican administration are nasty in the way they say things. I assume these two people quoted in the BDN were not Mainers. At least I hope they weren’t.
I don’t think Sen. Susan Collins or other Maine Republican leaders would react with such nasty rhetoric. As Mainers, we are better than this.
Come on people, smile at your brother, let’s all get together and try to love one another right now.
