Mad Kat’s in Brewer is for sale again.
It’s the latest in a series of ups and downs for the popular Brewer nightspot on North Main Street.
It closed on New Year’s in 2025 before reopening that spring as Mack’s Restaurant and Tavern. That iteration was short-lived after the business struggled with a lack of customers and failing to acquire an amusement license, prompting it to close that November.
Owner Steve Markwith didn’t disclose the reason for the sale in a Friday social media post, but said that he just wants enough to cover the business’ existing debt.
He said that more than a half-million dollars have been invested to upgrade the business, including a new bar and seating. The business features a large kitchen, seating for 200 people, 8,400 square feet of space, and a stage and sound system that’s “second to none” in the region.
Despite the sum invested, Markwith is willing to let the business go for $199,000, saying it is “essentially turn-key ready to go right now.”
“We already did all the remodeling all you need to do is either keep it similar to what we have (great pizza, brunch, karaoke, etc) and/or turn it into your own vision. A combination of new ideas and what we have that works and the sky is the limit,” he wrote.
The restaurant will remain open in the meantime.
