Spencer Pratt’s controversial campaign for mayor of Los Angeles has received plenty of support — and some criticism — from other prominent public figures.
On the one-year anniversary of the deadly Los Angeles wildfires that destroyed Pratt’s home, the Hills alum announced in early 2026 that he would be running for mayor. Pratt, who has been a registered Republican since 2020, says he is running his campaign as an “independent community advocate,” denouncing both political parties despite receiving praise from many MAGA figures, including President Donald Trump.
“What people want from me is somebody to tell them the truth,” Pratt said in Us Weekly’s latest cover story. “I [know] what it feels like when you’re the victim of the city’s failures — whether your house burned down or you were attacked or robbed, or you lost your job because restaurants have closed and Hollywood has failed or you’ve stepped on human poop and there’s a crazy, naked drug addict in front of your kids at the park. I’m not going to let this happen anymore.”

David Foster and Katharine McPhee
David Foster and Katharine McPhee are among the stars supporting Pratt. “We are part of the exhausted majority that is begging for a clean and safe city for all Angelenos,” the pair exclusively told Us. “Severe loss has sadly provided Spencer Pratt with an opportunity to combat the status quo that hasn’t been working for decades. We believe that Spencer is the right man for the right job at the right time.”
Val Chmerkovskiy
“The Spencer I know is a devoted husband, dedicated father, and a lifelong Angeleno who cares deeply about the future of Los Angeles and the people who call it home,” Dancing With the Stars pro Val Chmerkovskiy said in a statement to Us.
Drew Droege
The comedian exclusively told Us that he initially thought Pratt running for mayor was a “joke,” noting that it’s “an even bigger joke that anyone would vote for him.”
When asked whether he sees Pratt’s campaign as a serious political ambition or a big scam for attention, Drew Droege replied, “If this person were serious about getting into politics, he would have started with something smaller so that he could learn how the process works.”
“No, this is nothing more than a stunt,” Droege continued. “He lost his home to the fires — that’s horrible, but he didn’t have homeowners insurance. He lost millions investing in crystals. I’ve seen multiple reports that he has a deal for a new reality show about being mayor. That’s disgusting and insulting to Los Angeles. This person is a con artist. Also I made a post criticizing him, and he blocked me online. He’s blocking everyone who is criticizing him. How could he possibly run our city? This is a child. This is not a serious candidate for mayor.”
Droege noted that he has “never” watched Pratt’s show or followed him online, but shared he has concerns about someone from a reality TV background stepping into this role.
“The job of mayor is incredibly hard and not ever glamorous,” he said. “This person has to give up the need to be adored, to roll up their sleeves and do what’s best for the city. Reality tv rarely rewards humble people who think outside themselves. Spencer Pratt is clearly driven by his ego — his skin is so thin that he’s blocking his critics —- during the primary election!”
Droege doesn’t necessarily think that celebrity culture has blurred the line between entertainment and politics too much, sharing that a lot of public figures “could be great political leaders.”
“But we have to look at what they stand for and what their plan is to lead,” he said. “Spencer Pratt has no plan. And he was a terrible celebrity too. Look at the ‘celebrities’ who support him — Katharine McPhee and James Woods? Gross!”
Droege, for his part, disagrees with the sentiment that outsiders are what politics needs at the moment. “When has that worked for us? When I’m sick, I go to the doctor,” he said. “I don’t DM Abby Lee Miller.”
Amber Rose
Rose, for her part, will be supporting Pratt. She shared with Us that Pratt “will do a good job because he is an LA native.”
“He’s seen the downward spiral over the years,” she said. “He’s for the people and not affiliated with any political party. He wants what’s best for the citizens of Los Angeles. He wants to bring this city back to the golden age. We need that for us and especially for our children.”
Rose, who moved here in 2010, shared that she has seen the city ”go downhill” since then. “I understand his frustrations, and I agree with everything he is trying to do to improve Los Angeles,” she said.
Ahead of Pratt’s mayoral run, Rose shared that she had never watched The Hills but had “heard rumors” about him being a “villain” on the show.
“I have seen clips from interviews of people asking him how he felt about being a villain,” she said. “Personally, I don’t care about things like that. People judge me for things I did 20+ years ago. What Spencer is doing now is what’s important.”
Rose shared that she believes Pratt “definitely understands the severity of wildfires and the homelessness crisis that we are dealing with.”
“Under Karen Bass, things have become significantly worse over the years,” she said. “I understand there is no easy way to deal with the homelessness problem, but 93 percent of homeless people are on drugs and pitching tents in front of homes, schools, and parks. This is not OK for anyone who lives here, especially when our children want to go outside and play.”
Rose also pushed back on the idea that Pratt’s mayoral run is a publicity stunt, telling Us, “I don’t believe anybody wants to deal with the headache of cleaning up one of the biggest cities in the country for publicity. He’s doing it for the greater good of the people in Los Angeles.”
Rose noted that if Pratt was elected, he would “use logic and common sense, which the leadership in Los Angeles has not had in recent years.”
Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino
The Jersey Shore alum exclusively told Us that he thinks Pratt could “succeed” as a mayor with his “ability to connect and engage with others.”
“I support him because he is outspoken and not afraid to speak openly on issues that are impacting individuals daily,” he said. “What resonates with me most about his messaging is his focus on wanting to fix everyday issues like the cost of living, homelessness, and safety.”
Sorrentino, who shared that he’s “familiar” with Pratt, noted that the Hills alum “genuinely understands these issues better because he personally sees and experiences them firsthand, whereas a traditional politician sometimes doesn’t get that same personal experience.”
“I understand why people might think [this is a publicity stunt], but he genuinely seems passionate about wanting to make a change, and I don’t think people should not take him seriously just because he isn’t a traditional candidate,” Sorrentino added.
If Pratt was elected, the Jersey Shore alum shared that he “would really make an impact on the cost of living and growing safety issues across the state which is a concern for many.”
“His ability to captivate an audience, even among people who may not have been fans before,” Sorrentino continued of Pratt’s qualities that people underestimate. “His passion for running for mayor is undeniable, and his vision and support are exactly what people need right now. I also admire the way he’s able to turn negatives into positives, like he did after his house burned down. That kind of resilience and optimism is rare, and it’s why I’ll always root for the underdog.”
When asked why people in the entertainment industry have become more outspoken politically, Sorrentino told Us, “People rely on our platforms and our ability to reach large audiences. The connection we have with fans also helps messages resonate more and encourages people to listen.”
Jamie Kennedy
Jamie Kennedy exclusively told Us that he has lived in California since he was 18 years old and appreciates that Pratt is also a city native.
“He knows the state, he cares about the state. He was completely blindsided, as we all were, as we’re doing this piece, there’s another fire, and he lost his home, and that’s his origin story,” Kennedy shared.
Kennedy explained that he had seen Pratt several moments before his house burned down, and the Hills alum spoke about producing movies. Now, however, Kennedy shared that Pratt is “a completely changed man” after the fire, describing him as “a man with a vision and a purpose.”
“He deeply cares. He’s not a career politician,” Kennedy continued. “I don’t think career politicians are good. We need… this state is, you know, I’ve traveled the world, and California, especially Los Angeles, is considered a jewel, and right now it’s, it’s tarnished, and we’ve lost common sense. He is a person who is in touch with the elites, if you want to say, or the higher up people, but he also speaks and gets in the mud with the common man.”
For Kennedy, his No. 1 reason for supporting Pratt has to do with the other candidates — including incumbent Bass and Nithya Raman — “just saying things to look good in front of their friends” and not taking “action.”
“There’s no reason for Spencer to run. He doesn’t have to run. He’ll be fine. He can go and just keep doing celebrity appearances, and he’ll figure it out,” Kennedy said.
Kennedy also weighed in on the idea that Pratt’s run is just for publicity.
“Aliens are a week away. Are you trying to make sense in a nonsensical world? Like, things are wild. I mean, [the] Ebola virus is kicking up, Hantavirus. I mean, I don’t think he’s just gonna get elected and then just go away, OK? It’s impossible,” Kennedy said. “David Foster is an amazing legend in our business and highly respectable. He’s backing him. There’s a lot of people in Brentwood, Westside liberals who normally would never back a candidate like that, are backing him, so that says something.”
Kennedy, who admires that Pratt would be “blunt,” explained that the Hills alum is “very charming.”
“He did the debate, he wasn’t scared to be loose with it,” Kennedy continued. “He talks normal. He’s like, ‘Let’s run it back.’ He talks like a bro, but he’s a man of the people. He’s from here, he grew up here. There’s a different soil that runs under your feet, if you were born here, and, and I just think that he really wants it to be back, like when he was popping on MTV, you couldn’t have asked for a better time in California.”
Perez Hilton
The gossip columnist praised Pratt’s “really strategic” messaging, sharing that “people underestimate just how smart” The Hills alum is.
“To be a successful reality TV star and sustain that requires skill, talent and smarts,” he added.
Perez Hilton, who called himself a “Spencer loyalist,” shared that he believes Pratt’s political ambitions and campaign intentions are “pure.”
