A trio out of Massachusetts was arrested Friday night after they allegedly rammed a Lewiston police cruiser with a stolen vehicle.
Antonio Moralespijoan, 23, of Marlborough, Massachusetts, has been charged with reckless conduct, aggravated criminal mischief, refusing to submit to arrest, leaving the scene of an accident, theft by receiving stolen property and theft by unauthorized use of property; Angelika Almeida, of Lawrence, Massachusetts, has been charged with theft by unauthorized use of property and possession of stolen property; and Steven Grossi, 37, of Lowell, Massachusetts, has been charged with theft by unauthorized use of property, possession of stolen property and refusing to submit to arrest, according to the Lewiston Police Department.
Moralespijoan was allegedly driving a Ford dual-wheel dump truck reported stolen out of Marlborough, Massachusetts, about 8 p.m. when police found it near Bartlett and Walnut streets, where Moralespijoan pulled into a rear parking lot.
But with no other exit, Moralespijoan allegedly rammed into a police cruiser before fleeing down Howe Street to the Longley School, where he crashed into a playground fence.
Police apprehended Moralespijoan, Almeida and Grossi as they tried to flee from the disabled truck.
One officer was cut on the back of the head by the mangled fence and was taken to St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, where he received seven staples to close the wound. The officer inside the rammed cruiser wasn’t injured.
Police believe the trio were in Lewiston to continue a crime spree.
