
Lewiston police on Tuesday charged a 14-year-old shooting victim with committing two crimes, including stealing a gun.
The shooting occurred on May 7 at about 4:30 p.m. on Avon Street. Witnesses reported hearing several gunshots, screaming and many teens running from the scene.
The 13-year-old who allegedly shot the boy in the leg was charged with elevated aggravated assault, according to the Lewiston Police Department. The 14-year-old victim was taken to Central Maine Medical Center, where he was in stable condition as of the next day.
Police detained several teens and seized three guns, two of which were stolen, the department said. A 15-year-old boy was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, the department said.
On Tuesday, Lewiston police charged the 14-year-old who was shot with theft by receiving stolen property (a gun), and falsifying physical evidence. The boy, who was not identified by police, was taken to the Long Creek Youth Development Center, Maine’s youth prison.
