Savannah Guthrie is making a new move in her career amid her mom Nancy Guthrie‘s ongoing disappearance.
NBC announced on Monday, May 11, that a game show is in the works based on The New York Times puzzle Wordle, which challenges players to solve a five-letter mystery word in six guesses or less. The show will be hosted by Savannah, 54, and filmed in Manchester, England.
“Everything is strange right now,” Savannah told The New York Times about the timing of the opportunity. “It’s strange to get up and do the Today show every day, and it’s strange to say that I’m going to do a game show when your heart is broken.”
She continued: “Nothing about that has changed, and it’s not easy, but I’m determined to put one foot in front of the other. And this is a joyous thing.”

Savannah recalled connecting with her mother over Wordle — and even showing her the game show’s pilot in December 2025.
During Monday’s episode of the Today show, Savannah revealed that production was delayed after Nancy, 84, was reported missing in Arizona.

“We found out in February that we got picked up and we were supposed to shoot in March,” Savannah explained. “I just want to say a quick thank you to NBC and to Jimmy [Fallon] and his production company, and the New York Times and the studio Universal because when everything happened with me and my family, they just stopped everything and said, ‘We’ll wait for you.’”
Nancy was last seen on January 31. Early on in the case, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos noted that there were “concerning circumstances” found at Nancy’s home.

“She’s very alert, she’s of good, sound mind,” he told reporters in February, adding that Nancy is “not in good” physical health. “I hope we find her safe and sound, but we can’t ignore what’s in front of us.”
Throughout the nearly 100-day investigation, several ransom letters were allegedly received by TMZ and local news outlets. The FBI previously released photos and video footage of an unidentified subject outside of Nancy’s home. Authorities and the Guthrie family have offered rewards for information about Nancy’s whereabouts.
“Someone needs to do the right thing. We are in agony,” Savannah told Hoda Kotb in an emotional interview before officially returning to the Today show on April 6. “And to think of what she went through. I wake up every night in the middle of the night. Every night. And in the darkness, I imagine her terror. And it is unthinkable.”

Savannah admitted that she wondered whether her status as a public figure contributed to her mother being abducted.
“It’s just too much to bear to think that I brought this to her bedside,” she told Kotb. “That it’s because of me. I have to say I’m so sorry, Mommy. I’m so sorry. I’m sorry to my sister and my brother and my kids and my nephew and Tommy, my brother-in-law. I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry. If it is me, I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry.”
As the search for Nancy continues, Savannah has used her platform to ask for help.
“Mother, daughter, sister, Nonie, We miss you with every breath,” she wrote via Instagram on Sunday, May 10, in honor of Mother’s Day. “We will never stop looking for you. We will never be at peace until we find you.”
Savannah continued: “We need help. Someone knows something that can make the difference. Call 1800CALLFBI. You can be anonymous and the reward remains available. Please keep praying. Bring her home.”
