Convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s alleged suicide note has been unsealed by a federal judge.

The letter was released on Wednesday, May 6, following a New York court order request by the New York Times, according to multiple outlets. On a piece of lined paper Epstein scrawled his seemingly final message on nearly illegible handwriting.

“They investigated for month — found nothing!!!” the note read. “So 16 year old charge results!”

Epstein also allegedly wrote, “It is a treat to be able to choose one’s time to say goodbye.”

“Watcha want me to do — burst out crying!! NO FUN — not worth it!!” the message concluded.

The note is not signed. CNN reported that the Justice Department indicated it did not know if the purported note is legitimate. The unverified document was allegedly found by Epstein’s former cellmate.

Epstein was convicted in a Florida court of procuring a child for prostitution and soliciting prostitution in 2008. He served 13 months in prison and was forced to register as a sex offender. More than a decade later, Epstein was back in jail awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. While in prison at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City, he died by suicide at age 66.

The release of Epstein’s alleged suicide messages comes amid public interest in the Epstein Files. Last year, Congress passed The Epstein Files Transparency Act. The Department of Justice then started releasing thousands of documents related to the FBI’s investigation into the disgraced billionaire in December 2025.

The files included Epstein’s personal correspondence with countless prominent world figures, including Bill Gates, Prince Andrew and more. Earlier this year, Gates, 70, addressed his connection to Epstein and expressed remorse for it.

“It was a huge mistake to spend time with Epstein,” Gates said in February during a Gates Foundation company town hall, per a recording obtained by The Wall Street Journal. “I apologize to other people who are drawn into this because of the mistake that I made.”

Andrew, for his part, was arrested in February for suspicion of misconduct in public office. The former royal, who had his titles stripped in October 2025, was released from police custody within hours of his arrest.

While Andrew has not publicly addressed the accusations, his brother King Charles III released a statement.

“I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office,” Charles said in a statement following brother’s arrest. “What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities. In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and cooperation.”.
