A Limestone woman has pleaded not guilty to charges of voter fraud.
Karen Theriault, 46, was arraigned Thursday at Caribou District Court. Prosecutors allege that Theriault, a registered Republican, according to Limestone voter records, knowingly voted twice under her own name in the same election in 2024.
Voting or attempting to vote more than once is a Class C felony under Maine’s ineligible voting law, as are knowingly voting while ineligible or voting using another person’s name.
If convicted, Theriault could face up to five years in prison and up to a $5,000 fine.
Theriault requested legal advice from a court-appointed attorney.
She was released on personal recognizance bail with no special conditions, and ordered to appear next on June 23 at the Caribou court.
