A New Jersey man who moved to Bangor last fall, allegedly drove back to his home state to do harm to his former girlfriend and instead was shot by police.
Brian Lanzim, 37, of Toms River had moved to Maine to take a security job that he lost in March, according to NJ.com.
His longtime girlfriend in New Jersey had also recently broken up with him and got a restraining order telling local police that Lanzim had guns and had threatened to “visit her” with them, the New Jersey news site reported.
Based on court documents, NJ.com reported that Lanzim called his girlfriend on April 29 and told her, “You don’t know crazy yet.” She allegedly heard the click of a gun during the call. She was able to track his location and found that he was headed south, according to the court documents.
Lanzim allegedly arrived at his ex-girlfriend’s house in Ocean County wearing a tactical vest and holding a pistol. Two police officers were waiting for him and allegedly ordered him to drop the gun but Lanzim would not and attempted to break into the home. Police fired five shots hitting him at least three times, according to NJ.com.
Lanzim survived and was charged with multiple counts of attempted murder, including trying to kill one of the police officers with his car, the new site reported.
