The woman killed in a house fire in Skowhegan last week has been identified.
The fire broke out about 5:02 p.m. on April 28 inside the garage of the Waye Street home, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Firefighters tried to rescue 84-year-old Jane Towle, identified Tuesday morning as the fire’s victim, but heavy flames repelled them.
Towle was later found dead inside.
Investigators have been unable to determine how the fire started because of the extensive damage. They cannot rule out a number of accidental causes, Moss said Tuesday.
