Gilmore Girls alum Scott Patterson is Team No One when it comes to choosing between Rory Gilmore’s love interests on the show.
During a recent appearance on Fox 29’s MIKE, Patterson, 67, was asked whether he’s “Team Dean, Jess or Logan,” in reference to Rory’s (played by Alexis Bledel) three boyfriends throughout the show.
“Here’s how I answer that question now,” Patterson — who played Luke Danes, diner owner and eventual love interest of Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham) — began. “I want to take a practical approach to it. If we sort of game theory out marriage to each one of these guys, and then you look 10 years out into the marriage … and let’s say there are two kids now, and they’re 10 years in, I think Dean and Jess and Logan, I think they’re all going to cheat on her.”
Jared Padalecki played Rory’s first high school boyfriend, Dean Forester, while Milo Ventimiglia played her second love interest, Jess Mariano. Matt Czuchry later joined the cast as Rory’s college boyfriend, Logan Huntzberger.

Though Logan proposed to Rory in the final season, she turned him down in order to forge her own life path. The couple later had an affair in Netflix’s 2016 revival, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. The revival ended with Rory being pregnant, and there was a strong insinuation that Logan was the father.
If he had to choose between the three, Patterson went with Logan — but not because he’s the best match for Rory.
“In a divorce settlement, I think she does best with Logan, ’cause she is gonna get a pile of money,” Patterson continued, referring to the Huntzberger family’s wealth. “She’ll also get revenge on [Logan’s dad, newspaper giant Mitchum Huntzberger, played by Gregg Henry], who kind of destroyed her confidence in the journalism game.”
Like Patterson, his Gilmore Girls character was famously critical of Rory’s boyfriends — even Jess, his own nephew. He once told Lorelai, Rory’s mother, that she deserved to be with a “prince.”
Patterson — who watched Gilmore Girls for the very first time in recent years to unpack the show on his podcast, “I Am All In” — previously called Rory’s love interests “bums” in an October 2025 interview with People.
“Rory needs to mature out of these experiences with these boys. There’s fresh blood out there for her. She needs to redefine what she wants with her life, for her life,” he said at the time. “And I think that’s with a completely new person. … I’ve been in either camp one time or another in the past, but now I’d like to see her have a completely new experience. None of these relationships worked out, and there’s a reason for that because they weren’t meant to.”

Despite his distaste for Rory’s now-exes, Patterson exclusively told Us Weekly in October 2025 that he’d like to do another Gilmore Girls revival.
“Well, I think if Amy is talking about maybe a Christmas special and then Lauren is repeating that, I think there’s intention there, so I am ever hopeful and I think the fans are too,” he said, referring to previous comments made by series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and Graham, 59. “This is the one question that [fans] have in common, and I wish I had a definitive answer, but I don’t … I’m sure it’ll happen. Maybe.”
