Maine State Police will lead a search on Kennebec Road in Hampden, Tuesday, for a town resident who has been missing for roughly five months.
Douglas Dunphy, 78, hasn’t been seen or heard from since early January. Hampden police started investigating on Jan. 15 and found his white Ford Econoline van.
In early February, Hampden police agreed to allow the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit-North to take lead on the investigation, “due to the complexity of the investigation.”
State police spokesperson Shannon Moss on Monday said searches in “high probability areas” are common in missing person cases. There is no known risk to the public, she said, and the public is not being asked to help in the search.
Dunphy was described by police in February as typically wearing a black Carhartt jacket and blue cap. He is 5-foot-10, weighs 210 pounds and has green eyes and gray hair.
He retired in 2015 after 35 years as mechanical superintendent of the Bangor Daily News.
Anyone with information about Dunphy’s whereabouts is asked to call Maine State Police Detective Jennifer Fiske at 207-973-3700, ext. 9.
Information may also be submitted to the Major Crimes Unit–North via this online tip portal.
