A Rumford duplex was burned early Thursday morning.
The fire broke out about 4:55 a.m. at the Virgin Street residence, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
When firefighters arrived, they discovered heavy flames on the first, second and third floors, Moss said Monday morning.
A family of four, along with two dogs, living in one half of the duplex escaped from the flames safely.
The other side of the duplex was under construction when the fire broke out.
The fire remains under investigation.
