Bar Harbor’s hospital is uniting with its affiliates under a new “unified” brand.
MDI Hospital, its affiliates and Birch Bay Village will now have a “shared identity” under the MDI Health brand, the health system announced Monday.
“For many people, the word ‘hospital’ only tells part of our story,” Chrissi Maguire, president and CEO of MDI Health, said in a statement. “Today, we are so much more. From primary care to behavioral health, emergency services to community programs, we provide a continuum of care that extends far beyond hospital walls.”
That move comes after a two-year project that sought to confront the fact that many people were unaware that these different facilities belonged to the same independent network, as well as simplify billing, access and care.
None of the facilities will be changing their names as part of the brand overhaul.
MDI Hospital opened in 1897 as Bar Harbor Medical and Surgical Hospital, assuming its current name in 1931.
The other affiliates under the MDI Health umbrella include Breast Health Center, Cadillac Family Practice, Community Dental Center, Community Health Center, Cooper Gilmore Health Center, Lisa Stewart Women’s Health Center, MDI Behavioral Health Center, Northeast Harbor Health Center and Trenton Health Center.
