Skowhegan police on Wednesday arrested a man in connection with vandalism at the Southside Cemetery that may have involved other people.
The damage had been noted over the past week and appeared to target monuments with angels, the Skowhegan Police Department said.
WABI previously reported that more than 50 monuments in the cemetery were toppled late last week. That damage did not appear to be limited to headstones with angels.
On Wednesday, police arrested Christian Newton, 28, of Skowhegan.
Newton is charged with aggravated criminal mischief and interfering with cemetery or burial ground. He is being held at Somerset County Correctional Facility with bail set at $2,500.
The investigation is ongoing and police believe more people are involved.
