A Sunday morning fire destroyed an unoccupied single-story house in a residential neighborhood of Ashland.
The fire, which began around 9:30 a.m., tore through a house at 65 Watt St. It’s believed to have started in the kitchen, Ashland Fire Chief Donald Bouley said.
The Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause. The owner’s identity was not immediately available.
No one lived at the house, and Bouley said no one was inside at the time of the fire. One person was treated on scene for symptoms of heat exhaustion.
First responders closed Watt Street for about three hours as they put out the fire. The house is a total loss.
The Masardis and Portage Lake fire departments provided mutual aid.
