A Brewer man was arrested Sunday morning after allegedly fleeing the scene of a crash on I-395 that sent a 20-year-old woman to the hospital, according to Maine State Police.
The crash occurred at approximately 11:49 a.m. Saturday in the westbound lanes near the Main Street overpass in Bangor.
Witnesses reported a black Ford Mustang struck a Volkswagen coupe, causing it to spin out, leave the road, cross an I-395 entrance ramp and roll over a guardrail, down an embankment and into the woods.
The driver of the coupe, a 20-year-old woman from Chester, was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Mustang spun out into a concrete jersey barrier in the median, and the driver was seen walking away from the scene on foot. Despite a canvass of the area by troopers and local agencies, he was not found.
A photo submitted to the Maine State Police 411-Tip Line showed a man fleeing the scene who matched the description of the Mustang’s registered owner.
Troopers located and arrested David Harris, 48, of Brewer at his apartment at approximately 7:40 a.m. Sunday.
Harris was taken to Penobscot County Jail and charged with leaving the scene of a crash with injury, aggravated driving to endanger, failure to make an oral accident report and operating without a license. The first two charges are Class C felonies.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
