WALDO — Students in the Culinary Arts program at Waldo County Technical Center showcased their skills and compassion by preparing and serving a four-course meal in honor of local hospice volunteers on April 14.
The luncheon, held for volunteers of Waldo County Hospice Volunteers, was designed as a heartfelt thank you to those who dedicate their time to providing comfort, care and companionship to individuals and families during life’s most tender moments.
Under the guidance of their instructor Jackie Boulay, WCTC Culinary Arts students planned, prepared and presented a thoughtfully crafted four-course meal, demonstrating both technical skill and a deep understanding of hospitality. From menu design to final presentation, students were fully engaged in creating an experience that honored the spirit of service embodied by hospice volunteers.
“This was more than just a meal — it was an opportunity for our students to give back to their community in a meaningful way,” said a WCTC representative. “Our Culinary Arts program emphasizes not only professional skills, but also the importance of using those skills to care for others.”
The event provided students with valuable real-world experience in event planning, food preparation and professional service, while also reinforcing the role that food can play in bringing people together and expressing gratitude.
Volunteers in attendance were treated to an elegant dining experience, thoughtfully prepared and served by students who understand that hospitality is as much about heart as it is about technique.
WCTC continues to create opportunities for students to connect their learning with community service, preparing them for both careers and meaningful contributions beyond the classroom.
