The body of a 63-year-old lobsterman from Steuben was recovered from Dyer Bay on Wednesday morning, according to the Maine Marine Patrol.
Thomas West’s 35-foot-lobster boat had been running with no one aboard, prompting local fishermen to initiate a search for the man around 9 p.m. Tuesday evening. The Maine Marine Patrol launched a search Tuesday evening.
The search was suspended at around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday due to low visibility, with plans to continue the search efforts in the morning.
The marine patrol was notified Wednesday morning that West’s body had been located near his boat, the Aces and Eights. A family member transported West’s body to shore.
An autopsy will be conducted by the Maine medical examiner’s office.
