Midcoast theatre-maker fundraises to bring ‘Lipstick’ production to Edinburgh Fringe Festival

Local actor and playwright Angelina Nichols will host three performances of her original one-act play “Lipstick”, with all proceeds going towards the production’s transfer to Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August. This is a unique opportunity to support Maine theatre on an international scale.

“Lipstick” is a post-apocalyptic tale of beauty, misogyny and bisexual baggage. Amidst societal collapse, Mila (Nichols) and Sam (Cassidy Small) find comfort in their close friendship and budding attraction. It seems possible that the end of the old world could be the beginning of something better. All that changes when a strange man arrives. Joe (Zach Ballard) is desperate for Mila’s companionship, and in exchange he can give her an artifact of her former life: a lipstick. As tensions among the three rise, Mila must choose whether to cling to hope for the future, or rely on the safety of male approval.

Performances are May 1-2 at 7 p.m. and May 3 at 3 p.m. at Midcoast Shakespeare Studio in the Belfast Center, 9 Field St, Suite 118. Tickets are sliding scale $15–25 at the door via cash or Venmo. There will also be merch available for purchase. All funds from these performances will go toward travel expenses for Edinburgh Fringe festival.
