Sen. Susan Collins has done a nearly-unimaginable amount of good for Maine. We all know about the projects she’s gotten built, the fire trucks and police vehicles she’s gotten funded, the bridges, and the destroyers at Bath Iron Works. I think it’s safe to say that Maine’s economy would look much worse without her.
But I want to point out one issue she’s worked on that has gone a little bit under the radar:
Collins has fought hard for election security funding and she has delivered.
Our town clerks work hard to run safe, fair elections. And Collins has made sure Maine gets the resources it needs to keep our election system safe and modern.
For most voters, Election Day is a straightforward experience. Behind the scenes, however, there is a tremendous amount of preparation involved. Clerks must manage voter lists, maintain voting equipment, train poll workers, and ensure systems remain secure. Much of the technology used to carry out these responsibilities requires regular updates and replacement.
Sen. Collins has been a consistent supporter of these efforts, understanding that strong elections depend on making sure local officials have the resources necessary to do their jobs.
I appreciate what she has already done and, in an era where people have serious concerns about election safety, I’m confident she will continue leading the fight to keep our elections secure.
