Amazon has purchased the 20-acre lot where it plans to build a $17.5 million warehouse, according to tax documents obtained by the Bangor Daily News.
The tech company bought the land, which was previously a drive-in theater, from a Bangor-based company on April 9 for $1.9 million, according to real estate transfer tax documents.
The warehouse is one of four Amazon warehouses either completed or proposed in Maine within the last year. A 12,000-square-foot facility in Caribou opened last year and projects in Gorham and Waterville are also proposed or in development.
Hermon officials have not confirmed Amazon’s involvement in the warehouse, but filings with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection and Maine Revenue Services show that Amazon has bought the land and is paying for the construction of a 60,000-square-foot warehouse.
Construction is already underway at the location, and the movie screens were pulled down earlier this month.
Hermon Economic Development Director Scott Perkins did not respond to a request for comment Monday.
The Gorham, Waterville and Hermon developments are for “last-mile” delivery services that Amazon has spent billions on in recent years.
An Amazon spokesperson previously said “nothing is finalized in Hermon,” but did acknowledge the company’s involvement.
The spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment about the purchase Monday.
