BrightBuilt Home Earns 2026 Maine Climate Catalyst Award for pioneering scalable, high-performance modular home design

PORTLAND – When future homeowners come to BrightBuilt Home, they are often at a similar point in their journey: they care deeply about how their home will perform, what their home will cost to live in over time, and how their home will fit into a changing climate. They also prioritize a design and construction process that is proven, transparent, and as predictable as possible in today’s unpredictable world.

Those priorities have shaped BrightBuilt’s work from the beginning, guiding early efforts to prove how beautiful, high performance homes can be built reliably in colder climates such as New England and share this proof of concept with other designers and builders, so all could see what is not only possible but also practical and scalable. This open sourcing helped move the BrightBuilt Home concept from a single project into broader practice. On March 19 at the fourth annual ClimateWork Maine Summit in Portland, BrightBuilt Home received the Maine Climate Catalyst Award for these efforts.

ClimateWork Maine plays a key role in shaping Maine’s climate future by bringing together businesses, policymakers, and communities to turn climate strategy into action. Its members include diverse businesses and business leaders who understand the impacts of climate change on Maine’s economy and future, and who want to take action to address the challenges it presents and seize the opportunities it provides. This year’s summit theme, Climate Dominance and Affordability, reflects a growing recognition that Maine’s climate response must also address the housing crisis, workforce needs, and cost pressures facing residents statewide.

After years of navigating an industry that often felt complicated and opaque, BrightBuilt’s founders envisioned a simpler path — one where homeowners didn’t need to be sustainability experts or have deep industry connections to move into a beautifully designed, net-zero ready home. Over time, BrightBuilt has seen high-performance design coupled with modular construction evolve from experimentation to real solutions for addressing regional climate and housing goals. This shift is something Parlin Meyer, Managing Principal of BrightBuilt Home, has witnessed firsthand, having successfully guided over 175 homeowners along a brighter path to a better forever home.

“With so much changing around housing and climate action today, we know many homeowners feel lost in the dark,” said Parlin Meyer. “For most people, a home is the biggest investment they’ll ever make. When the stakes are this high, confidence comes from clarity. We design homes that perform beautifully and tread lightly, through a process that is clear every step of the way. Thank you to ClimateWork Maine for recognizing this and thank you for your leadership in moving climate action forward.”

BrightBuilt Home was launched in 2013 as a sister firm to Kaplan Thompson Architects to design beautiful, durable, healthy, sustainable, high-performance homes. Leveraging design for innovative construction systems and a trusted network of manufacturers and builders, BrightBuilt Home aims to create a simpler path to homeownership. Combining expertise in architecture, sustainability, and process management, BrightBuilt Home helps mindful homeowners walk a well-lit path towards a better forever home. To date, BrightBuilt Home has designed over 365 net-zero energy or net-zero energy-ready homes. Visit our website to learn more: www.brightbuilthome.com.
