A fire burned a building used as a cat shelter in Hollis on Saturday morning.
The fire broke out in the trailer-style outbuilding behind a Hollis Road home about 10:09 a.m., according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze once they arrived, Moss said Monday afternoon.
The building, which had no electricity, was being used as a shelter for about a dozen cats, all but one of which was accounted for after the fire. The cats survived the fire, though the last cat’s fate isn’t currently known.
Investigators determined the fire started near a portable propane heater connected to a 20-pound propane cylinder. It was set up in the building Friday evening, according to Moss.
The fire was ruled accidental.
