John Stamos is in Dave Coulier‘s corner following the actor’s second cancer diagnosis.
“How about this guy? He is my hero, he is my No. 1 inspiration,” Stamos, 62, gushed during an interview on the Friday, December 12, episode of the Today show.
Stamos went on to share that he reunited with his former Full House costar recently. “I was with him last weekend and he’s great,” he continued. “He’s Dave and he’s beautiful. It sounds weird, but if anyone would have to go through this, he’s a good one because he can really inspire and talk to the world and show that with good will and love, you can make it through.”
Host Craig Melvin then remarked that Coulier’s “eyes light up” when he speaks about Stamos, who joked, “I think he’s in love with me.”
Dave Coulier’s Cancer Battle in His Own Words: From His Diagnosis to Now
Coulier, 66, appeared on the Today show earlier this month to reveal he is undergoing treatment for tongue cancer after previously battling non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
“It’s been a roller-coaster,” Coulier said on December 2. “To go through chemotherapy and feel that relief of ‘Whoa, it’s gone,’ and then to get a test that says, well now you’ve got another kind of cancer … it is a shock to the system.”
Coulier announced his initial diagnosis in November 2024. He later confirmed in March that he was cancer-free.
“It was a really tough year, chemotherapy was grueling,” Coulier said on the morning show. “A couple of months ago, I had a PET scan, and something flared on the scan. The doctor said, ‘We don’t know what it is, but there’s something at the base of your tongue.’”
At first, Coulier’s “painful” biopsy showed no signs of cancer. Another appointment in October, however, showed the growth flared again. Coulier later had an MRI and a CT scan, leading doctors to perform another biopsy that removed a larger part of his tongue. He was eventually diagnosed with an early-stage tongue cancer.

“They said it’s totally unrelated to my non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. This is a new cancer. … I said, ‘Are you kidding me?’” Coulier recalled. “They said it could stem from having an HPV virus up to 30 years ago. A lot of people carry the HPV virus, but they said mine activated and turned into a carcinoma.”
According to Coulier, the illness was caught early enough that it is “very treatable.” Doctors suggested he start radiation treatment “immediately.”
“It’s a whole different animal than chemo. It doesn’t feel as aggressive, but there are still side effects,” he said of radiation, noting that he feels “cautiously optimistic” about the process. “The silver lining here is that I had cancer, which helped me detect my other cancer. It seems crazy to be making that statement, but it’s true.”
Following Coulier’s health update, Stamos’ wife, Caitlin McHugh, shared a loving message via Instagram.
“While I do love how you use your experiences to help others, I sure hope God/the universe gives you a well-deserved break from it in the new year. ❤️❤️,” she wrote in the comments section of a clip from the Today show.
