A German influencer is reportedly responding to critics who questioned why she would allegedly abandon four rabbits in a forest.
“This has been weighing on my conscience for a while now, but I haven’t dared to address it myself until now because I feel incredibly guilty and ashamed,” Alicia Vosgrau reportedly wrote via Instagram in a statement translated by Us Weekly. “We had the incredibly stupid idea of releasing the remaining four rabbits into a wooded area, believing at the time that they would be fine there afterward.”
While two of the rabbits have since been rehomed, Vosgrau continues to face consequences with multiple couples reportedly no longer collaborating with the influencer.
“I am aware that there is no excuse for the situation and that being overwhelmed is not a justification,” she wrote in a since deleted post viewed by German newspaper Hamburger Abendblatt. “It was an extremely exceptional situation and probably the most difficult time in our lives. Unfortunately, we can’t undo it, no matter how much we wish we could.”

It appears the controversy began after a German animal shelter learned about four abandoned rabbits in the Rantzau Forest back in August.
The organization confirmed via Instagram on December 4 that they were able to save three of the rabbits after “comprehensive care.”
“For the record: Domesticated rabbits cannot survive alone in the wild,” the shelter shared online via translation. “They lack instincts and physical conditions that we humans have selectively ‘bred’ from you over centuries. So allegedly releasing animals is never a solution.”
While Vosgrau hasn’t been charged with a crime, Henning Hadeler — who serves as the public prosecutor’s office spokesman, said in a statement to German newspaper Bild, “The case is currently with the relevant police department for the necessary investigations regarding possible violations of the Animal Welfare Act.”
Vosgrau — who goes by the handle “aliciasmumlife” on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube — has gained a combined following of more than 2 million over the years.
Her followers follow her family life, which included welcoming her third child with husband Jan Vosgrau in June.
“We’re all so full of love for you, I feel like my heart is glowing 🩵,” Alicia wrote via Instagram on June 25 with one of the first photos of her third baby. “I look at you and think: I still missed you so much. … I feel so complete with you in our family. You fulfill me so much, my little darling.”

According to Hamburger Abendblatt, Alicia’s post explaining her decision to allegedly abandon the rabbits included an admission that “we were in a state of complete crisis” raising three kids and taking care of multiple pets.
Alicia’s last Instagram post before the controversy began was on December 2, when she shared family photos with her husband and three kids.
“Pregnancy got me like this — woke me up. As if I understood now why it wasn’t always so light-filled. I needed all of this to really find me now — my soul,” she wrote at the time. “MOM FAMILY LOVE UNIVERSE.”
