A Biddeford man has been charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of a 1-month-old boy in 2024.
Christopher Knapp, 36, was arrested on Tuesday and indicted by a grand jury later that day, Maine State Police said in a news release.
Police have disclosed little about the circumstances around the death of the boy, who was found unresponsive in a Biddeford apartment on June 15, 2024.
Biddeford police and fire departments were called to 37 Emery Street at about 11 a.m. that day for a report of an unresponsive infant.
The boy was taken to Southern Maine Hospital and later transferred to the Maine Medical Center. He died on June 20, according to police.
The state medical examiner’s office conducted an autopsy and ruled the death a homicide.
On Thursday, Knapp pleaded not guilty and is being held at the York County Jail in lieu of a $175,000 cash bail, according to police.
The 2024 incident was not made public by police until nearly two weeks after the boy’s death. Since then, police have been slow to release new information. Tuesday’s arrest comes more than a year after the incident and was not announced by police until Friday afternoon.
Police have not yet released the cause of death or provided any details about the circumstances.
