Oxford Plains Speedway or Wiscasset takes plenty of skill and endurance.
It’s a grueling sport even for veteran drivers, but imagine getting behind the wheel as a 9-year-old and taking home the checkered flag.
Racing for the first time in a stock car, 9-year-old Jace Pastore not only finished the race, he won!
“It was a dream … it was a dream come true,” Pastore said. “It was crazy, I was excited.”
Pastore became the youngest stock car driver in Oxford Plains Speedway history to win a feature race.
“It felt really good. I raced against my cousin. He finished third,” Pastore said.
So was he nervous at all racing against older drivers?
“Yeah, sometimes those big races, especially in a car, I was pretty nervous,” Pastore said.
Now, prior to Sunday, Pastore had been racing go karts, not just in Maine but all over the country.
“Daytona was awesome. Richmond is a good place to race too, and Oxford is especially awesome,” he said.
Pastore not only competes, but also he wins almost every time out! This year alone, taking home 73 checkered flags in 79 races! His parents, Joe and Briana, are very proud.
“He’s a pretty humble little boy,” Joe said.
But are they surprised?
“We’ve been pushing him, kind of grooming him, to this point, and he’s just taken it and run. Every time we give him another challenge, he rises to the occasion,” Joe said.
“He really does make it look easy, but proud is an understatement. I don’t think I can make it through a race anymore without crying because of how proud I am,” Briana said.
Jace Pastore definitely comes from some high octane racing stock. His grandfather Glen Luce won the Oxford 250 back in 2015, and his great-grandfather Mike Rowe won it three times, so could an Oxford 250 championship be in the future for young Jace?
“Yeah, for sure, yeah,” he said.
