Gov. Janet Mills said she is “seriously considering” running for Senate after an event with local business and economic leaders in Bangor on Tuesday.
“Every day, I read the news, and I get kind of upset about a lot of things, and I’m seriously considering it every day,” Mills said.
It’s the latest comment Mills has made regarding a possible Senate run, which she has been publicly considering for nearly a year. The 77-year-old governor told reporters last week that she would decide whether to run by November.
Mills made the statement after speaking at the Maine Housing 2025 Affordable Housing Conference Tuesday morning.
At the conference, Mills spoke about how her administration is working to lessen Maine’s housing crunch through initiatives that include a focus on long-term housing accessory dwelling units and building more housing across the state.
“We’re committed, and the Legislature is committed, to improving housing, making good, affordable housing available for anyone who wants it in the state of Maine,” she said.
Maine has put forth $315 million in state appropriations toward housing initiatives since 2019.
