Some sci-fi movies are just tailor-made for summer even if they didn’t come out during the hottest months of the year.
While there aren’t quite as many science fiction extravaganzas at the box office as there used to be, it’s always fun to revisit the best ones from the past.
That’s why the Watch With Us team has selected our picks for the four must-watch sci-fi movies that are perfect to stream in the summer.

‘Men in Black’ (1997)
There was a time when Will Smith just couldn’t miss at the summer box office. Men in Black took a largely obscure comic book and transformed it into a truly hilarious sci-fi comedy that still hasn’t been topped by the two sequels or the ill-fated Men in Black: International, which couldn’t recreate the magic without Smith or Tommy Lee Jones.
Smith plays James Darrell Edwards III, a police officer who stumbles upon the existence of aliens and a potential doomsday plot. Agent K (Jones) recruits James into the Men in Black, an organization designed to protect humans and aliens from otherworldly threats. A human-sized alien bug (Vincent D’Onofrio) has come to Earth with a deadly plot, and Agent J has a lot to learn before he and K can stop him.

‘Independence Day’ (1996)
Watching Independence Day on July 4 should be a national tradition. How many other holidays are tied to an all-time great sci-fi disaster flick? Will Smith also appeared prominently in this movie as Captain Steven Hiller, a Marine Corps pilot who is called in to defend his nation when aliens arrive on Earth shortly before the fourth of July.

Tech expert David Levinson (Jeff Goldblum) is one of the first to realize that the aliens aren’t just paying a friendly visit to Earth. But his warning to President Thomas J. Whitmore (Bill Pullman) isn’t received in time to prevent many of America’s most prominent cities from being destroyed. Now, the survivors have to come up with a plan to halt the invasion, or else there won’t be a tomorrow for humanity.

‘Edge of Tomorrow’ (2014)
It takes Tom Cruise more than a few tries to become the ultimate action hero in Edge of Tomorrow. Thanks to an alien-created time loop, Major William Cage (Cruise) has all of the time he needs to train under the tutelage of Sergeant Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt). Rita once had the same power, and she’s the only one who understands that William has to experience his own demise each time his day resets.
As William gets better, so do the aliens. And no matter how skilled William becomes, it never seems to change the outcome. That’s why William has to figure out a way to defy fate and save humanity from its inevitable extinction.

‘Back to the Future’ (1985)
This summer marks the 40th anniversary of Back to the Future, a film that has firmly established its place among the best sci-fi comedies ever made. Michael J. Fox plays Marty McFly, a teenager who has befriended the local mad scientist, Emmett “Doc” Brown (Christopher Lloyd).
Shortly after Doc Brown demonstrates his time-traveling DeLorean, Marty is forced to use it to escape a terrorist attack. He finds himself stuck in 1955, with his own existence in peril after he accidentally keeps his mother, Lorraine (Lea Thompson), from meeting his father, George (Crispin Glover), at a critical moment in their history. And if Marty can’t get them to fall in love with each other then he’ll fade away as if he never existed at all.
