3 Underrated Sci-Fi Movies You Should Watch in June 2025

Sci-fi fans should be very happy with their streaming options in June. It isn’t every month that two well-made science fiction flicks go straight-to-streaming!

This month, Netflix and Hulu are hosting two very different animated sci-fi movies.

Meanwhile, Max is the streaming home for one of 2025’s sleeper sci-fi hits. And that film may go down as a cult classic in the genre.

Keep reading for the Watch With Us team’s picks for the three underrated sci-fi movies you should watch in June 2025.

7 Must-Watch Sci-Fi Movies on HBO and Max Right Now (May 2025)

‘Predator: Killer of Killers’ (2025)

Have you ever wanted to see a Predator fight a ninja or a samurai? If so, you’re in luck. Hulu is debuting a new Predator animated anthology film called Predator: Killer of Killers. One of the stories included in the movie will feature the first-known instance of a Predator visiting Japan. And let’s just say he’s not there to play tourist.

Dan Trachtenberg — the director of Hulu’s Predator prequel, Prey — co-directed this film with Joshua Wassung from a script co-written by Trachtenberg and Micho Robert Rutare. While it’s unlikely that this movie will feature any callbacks to the 1987 Predator starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, the other stories include a Predator going up against Vikings and a Predator arriving on Earth in the middle of World War II.

Predator: Killer of Killers will stream on Hulu on June 6.

‘Lost in Starlight’ (2025)

Lost in Starlight is a gorgeously rendered Korean anime film that leans more towards romance than sci-fi. But the way it envisions the near-future world of Korea may remind you of Blade Runner. Nan-young (Kim Tae-ri) has been dreaming about becoming an astronaut her entire life to connect with her late mother, a pioneering astronaut who died during humanity’s first attempt to reach Mars.

Nan-young finally finds someone to emotionally connect with when she meets Jay (Hong Kyung), a throwback kind of guy who appreciates the older analog tech that’s barely in their lives. Romance, it turns out, is pretty easy between kindred spirits. The only tension that arises between them is when Nan-young is selected for the next mission to Mars, and Jay worries that she may not make it back home to him.

Lost in Starlight is streaming on Netflix.

‘Companion’ (2025)

Companion is the love story of Iris (Sophie Thatcher) and Josh (Jack Quaid). Josh is everything to Iris, and he means the world to her. They’ve done all of the rom-com things together, like walking in the park and chilling out in front of the TV. But the one revelation that might kill their relationship is that Iris isn’t real. She’s an advanced AI android who can convincingly mimic human behavior.

What’s New on Hulu in June 2025

All relationships have their ups and downs, but the news about Iris’ true nature makes her question whether she and Josh were ever really in love at all. Breakups can be hard, but this one might be lethal.

Companion is streaming on Max.
