John Mulaney is a proud father of two, but he’s keeping it real about splitting parenting duties with wife Olivia Munn.
Returning to Saturday Night Live on November 2 for his sixth time hosting the show, Mulaney addressed his home life in his opening monologue, touching on what it’s like now that there’s a new baby in the house … and joking that he sometimes gets the short end of the stick taking care of the kids.
“I’ve been great. My wife and I just welcomed a baby girl into our family,” he said, referring to the couple’s daughter, Méi June, who was born September 14 and is younger sister to 2-year-old Malcolm. “And a 2-year-old son.”
“My wife takes care of the 5 week old and I take the 2 year old out. And that’s not fair,” Mulaney quipped. “That’s not an equal distribution of labor at all. Saying ‘you have a 5 week old, I’ll take a 2 year old.’ That’s like saying ‘I’ll transport this convict across state lines, you hold a potato.”
Mulaney also gave a cute shout-out to his kids at the end of the show. “Goodnight Malcom, goodnight Méi,” he said, with a wave.
Mulaney and Munn welcomed their second baby via surrogate following Munn’s battle with breast cancer.
“Méi June Mulaney came into the world September 14, 2024, the year of the dragon
,” Munn, 44, wrote via Instagram on September 22. “I had so many profound emotions about not being able to carry my daughter. When I first met our gestational surrogate we spoke mother to mother. She showed me so much grace and understanding, I knew I had found a real-life angel. Words cannot express my gratitude that she kept our baby safe for 9 months and made our dreams come true.”

She continued, “I am so proud of my little plum, my little dragon for making the journey to be with us. My heart has exploded. Méi (pronounced may) means plum in Chinese 梅
.”
Munn revealed in March 2024 that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023. She underwent five surgeries throughout the course of her treatment, including a double mastectomy and a full hysterectomy.

“I took out my uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries,” she told Vogue in May 2024. “Doing a full hysterectomy was a big decision to make, but it was the best decision for me because I needed to be present for my family.”
The couple, who married in July, have been dating since 2021. Son Malcolm was born in November of that year.
