A western Maine school district canceled classes Monday because of a “credible threat.”
The threat targeted Telstar High School in Bethel, according to Maine School Administrative District 44, which serves Bethel, Gilead, Greenwood, Newry and Woodstock.
That decision was made Monday morning, and school officials apologized for the late notice.
The closure will count as the district’s first snow day.
MSAD 44 is working with the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office to address the threat.
That comes on the heels of a threat directed toward Dexter-based SAD 46 before the first day of class on Aug. 28, prompting officials there to cancel classes and after-school activities. Then late last week someone made a threat against Regional School Unit 20, which serves Searsport and Stockton Springs, but officials ruled the threat not credible. That came in the wake of a shooting at a Georgia high school that left two students and two teachers dead and several others wounded.
