A second police officer has been put under criminal investigation for assault over an incident at Manchester Airport last month.
It comes after a video showed a man being kicked and stamped on by an officer on 23 July.
Three days later, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said a police officer was being criminally investigated.
It said today a second officer was being investigated after Greater Manchester Police referred a complaint “detailing several allegations, from one of the people involved”.
The officer is also being investigated for potential gross misconduct for alleged breaches of professional standards including use of force, the IOPC added.
The investigations do not automatically mean criminal charges or misconduct proceedings will follow.
The IPOC said it would be looking into force used against two men and a woman – part of an initial incident near the car park machines at the airport – during which the two men were arrested.
It’s also investigating force used on three others in an incident shortly after, when two men were arrested and one of them was pepper sprayed.
The IOPC said it would assess whether their “response, actions and decisions” were in line with police policies and procedures.
