The brother of a Skowhegan woman murdered in 2022 could be charged with assault for attempting to attack his sister’s killer in the courtroom.
Clifford “CJ” Warren, 34, of Winterport was issued a summons on an assault charge for rushing Jason Servil in Skowhegan on April 12 after Servil was sentenced to 45 years in prison for the stabbing death of 20-year-old Alice Abbott, according to the Waterville Morning Sentinel.
The attempted attack followed almost two hours of an emotional sentencing hearing with nearly a dozen of Abbott’s family members present. Warren, his wife and Abbott’s mother read impact statements of how her death affected them, the Morning Sentinel reported.
After the sentence was read, Warren rushed toward Servil and jumped a barrier amid other family members shouting in what the newspaper called a “melee.”
Law enforcement used a stun gun on Warren and removed him from the courtroom.
Somerset County law enforcement is still investigating and official charging documents have not been filed yet. District Attorney Maeghan Maloney told the newspaper her office will consider the emotional nature of the hearing and Warren’s family connection when deciding how to pursue charges.
Servil, a Massachusetts man who was 19 at the time, stabbed Abbott 99 times at her family home in July 2022. She died of blood loss. He received a second, concurrent sentence of 10 years for assault on Abbott’s friend Nick Rice, who was at the home that night and received a head injury, according to the Sentinel.
Servil admitted to the murder and the assault when police located him. He and Abbott were in a brief relationship that she said she wanted to end before he killed her, the Morning Sentinel reported.
Warren will be arraigned Aug. 7.
