An Aroostook County man allegedly brandished a knife at Bangor Walmart workers when they tried to stop him from stealing a cart full of alcohol.
Niri Scott, 19, of Portage Lake was charged with robbery, according to Sgt. Jason McAmbley, a spokesperson for the Bangor Police Department.
Scott was attempting to leave the Walmart off Stillwater Avenue about 5 p.m. Saturday when store workers tried to stop him from leaving with a shopping cart full of alcohol, McAmbley said Tuesday morning.
Scott then allegedly brandished a knife and took the cart into the parking lot and left in a vehicle.
When Bangor police stopped the vehicle on Hogan Road, Scott was no longer in it, McAmbley said.
Police found Scott a short time later behind a business on Hogan Road, arrested him and took him to the Penobscot County Jail.
He allegedly admitted to stealing the alcohol, but denied brandishing a knife.
Police recovered approximately $300 worth of alcohol.
