WATERVILLE – On Sunday, Feb. 11 runners and walkers will be gathering at the spectacular new Alfond Center for Athletics and Recreation at Colby College in Waterville, Maine to participate in the annual Indoor Insanity 5K hosted by the Maine Indoor Air Quality Council.
This fun, family-friendly activity raises funds to fix radon problems in low-income Maine homes. Radon is the No. 1 cause of lung cancer in nonsmokers, and the No. 2 cause of lung cancer overall. One third of Maine homes likely have a radon problem. Radon test kits are available for pick up for free at the event.
Event director Christy Crocker at the Maine Indoor Air Quality Council says about the race, “You’d think running 25 laps indoors would be boring, but this race is anything but boring. There’s music, camaraderie, and great door prizes donated by area businesses – and it’s all for such a great cause. But the best part? There are no frigid gusts in your face, no ice under your feet, and no rain or snow! Everyone should try it.”
Runners of all levels and walkers can go to www.maineindoorair.org/indoor-insanity-5k for more information and to register. Walk-ins will be accepted on race day.
