Congratulations to Jacqueline Shaw and everyone involved in the opening of the Little Sunshine Learning Center in Fort Fairfield! I appreciate her entrepreneurial spirit, her passion for caring for and educating young children, and her drive to be part of the solution addressing the dire lack of child care in rural Maine.
As a regional business manager, I know all too well that the lack of affordable and accessible child care is a barrier to work for many parents of young children. Without child care to provide high-quality care for young children, too many parents cannot work or work full time. That hurts their families, our businesses, and Maine’s economy.
I’m pleased that many policymakers in Augusta understand this issue better and have made important first investments in Maine’s child care workforce and infrastructure. I hope this is the beginning of valuing early learning on par with our public education system.
Cheers to Jaqueline Shaw and everyone at the Little Sunshine Learning Center. I wish all of them great success!
