A 69-year-old man was found with a self-inflicted gunshot after the Bangor Police Department responded to a report of a weapon being discharged in the parking lot of the Bangor Veterans Affairs Clinic on Wednesday morning.
The man was found in his vehicle in the parking lot of the 35 State Hospital Drive facility at around 7:30 a.m. after intentionally wounding himself with a gun, according to Sgt. Jason McAmbley of the Bangor Police Department.
The man was transported to a local hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.
Details of the man’s identity were not available, as the police department doesn’t typically release details to the public on suicide cases.
However, McAmbley said that the department released the statement following false reports credited to the Bangor Police Department of a murder-suicide at the clinic.
