FORT KENT, Maine – The University of Maine at Fort Kent and First Mile Brewing Company recently partnered in a fun endeavor designed to bring the community together. The Fort Kent brewery has added a new beer to their taps aimed at celebrating the connection of the university to the greater community. Bengal Brew, named after the university’s mascot, will be introduced on Sept. 7 at First Mile, just in time for the Greater Fort Kent Chamber of Commerce Coming Home activities & UMFK Homecoming Weekend.
The New England IPA will be available at UMFK soccer games beginning Sept. 9 at the Homecoming Beer Garden at weekend games, the Athletic Hall of Fame dinner, and in local establishments. Proceeds from the beer sales will go to help support UMFK athletics.
“First Mile Brewing Company is happy to collaborate with UMFK to create Bengal Brew as we want to support higher education and give back to our local community,” said Travis Guy, one of the owners of First Mile, “We are proud to support UMFK and look forward to future collaborations.”
The Beer Garden is a new feature that the Bengals are introducing at the fall 2022 home games. It will follow all local and state laws and ordinances, including separation of those drinking from those underage. All individuals who wish to enter the Beer Garden will be carded. Staff will follow a card everyone rule, so fans over 21 should bring their ID.
“I am looking forward to having a beer garden at home games. It will definitely add to the atmosphere,” said Carly Flowers, UMFK athletic director, “Having fans at games brings a competitive edge for our athletes. I love the community support and hope to see everyone at a game!”
“In true Bengal spirit, our goal through our collaboration with First Mile Brewing was to bring two worlds together for our community,” said Nichole Jandreau, UMFK Foundation vice president. “We look forward to seeing new faces on campus to enjoy the Bengal Brew at our games and events!”
