Netflix’s Adolescence won the most awards at the 2025 Emmys — have you tuned in?
Adolescence, which was released in March 2025, centered around 13-year-old boy Jamie Miller (Owen Cooper), who is arrested after the murder of a girl in his school. The psychological crime drama became an overnight success in part because of the way the show was shot — with each episode filmed in one continuous take.
After its premiere, Adolescence shattered records becoming the first streaming show to top weekly ratings in the U.K. It opened with 24.3 million views in its first four days before climbing to 66.3 million after two weeks, which set a new Netflix record for a limited series.

What Is the Plot of ‘Adolescence’?
Set in an English town, Adolescence followed a 13-year-old boy arrested on suspicion of murder after his classmate was found dead. Jamie (Cooper) became the prime suspect after he was seen getting rejected by the girl before her death. The show followed the subsequent investigation while Jamie’s family dealt with the backlash.

In addition to Cooper, Stephen Graham, Ashley Walters, Faye Marsay, Mark Stanley, Christine Tremarco, Amélie Pease and Hannah Walters are featured in the show. Jo Hartley, Fatima Bojang, Kaine Davis, Amari Bacchus and Erin Doherty make up the rest of the cast.

The biggest question at the center of the series is whether Jamie committed the crime he was accused of by the police. At the end of the first episode, CCTV footage showed Jamie stabbing his classmate to death as the rest of the season focused on what led to the attack.

“Standing up here is just so surreal. Honestly when I started these drama classes a couple years ago, I didn’t expect to be even in the United States nevermind here,” Cooper said in his September 2025 speech. “But tonight proves that if you listen and you focus and you step out of your comfort zone you can achieve anything in life. I was nothing about three years ago and I’m here now.”

Deadline reported in April 2025 that Netflix and Brad Pitt‘s production company Plan B Entertainment were in talks about creating the “next iteration” of Adolescence.
